Beyonce Cast As Queen Tara In 3-D Animated Film 'Epic'

For a while now, folks have been referring to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> as a queen ... but now, she's going to make it official. On the big screen.According to <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/beyonce-colin-farrell-josh-hutcherson-amanda-seyfried-steven-tyler-lead-voice-cast-for-fox-animated-film-epic/" target="_blank">Deadline.com</a>, Beyoncé has been cast as Queen Tara in the upcoming 3-D, CGI-animated film "Epic," a 20th Century Fox film from the makers of the hits "Ice Age" and "Rio."The film reportedly tells the tale of a teenage girl transported to a secret universe, where she finds herself dropped square in the middle of a battle between the forces of good and evil. She joins forces with "a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters" to save the world. "Epic" is slated to hit theaters on May 24, 2013.It's the first confirmed role for Beyoncé since she took time off for maternity leave, though she's also slated to star in the Clint Eastwood-directed remake of "A Star Is Born."Starring alongside Bey in the movie are the likes of Colin Farrell, Amanda Seyfried, Aziz Ansari and a pair of her fellow musicians, Pitbull and Aerosmith frontman/"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler. Johnny Knoxville, Jason Sudeikis and Judah Friedlander round out the cast.Josh Hutcherson is also set to appear alongside Beyoncé in the film. He's currently riding high off the massive success of "Hunger Games," which is tied with "Bridesmaids" for the most nominations at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, which will air Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.Head over to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2012/">MovieAwards.MTV.com</a> to vote for your favorite flicks now! But now it's Bieber's turn: Just one week later, Bieber will be entering the charts with his third studio album, <a href="/news/articles/1685471/justin-bieber-believe-track-list.jhtml">Believe</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1687988/justin-bieber-believe-album-sales.jhtml">early predictions</a> are expecting huge album sales.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Do Usher And Justin Bieber Have a Friendly Competition For Record Sales?" id="vid:789781.id:1686957" width="415" height="255"></div>According to <a href="http://www.billboard.com/#/news/justin-bieber-kenny-chesney-headed-for-top-1007386952.story?utm_source=most_recent" target="_blank">Billboard</a>, Believe is on course to sell between 410,000 and 440,000 units, which would make it the year's biggest debut to date.Even though Bieber is on track to beat his mentor in sales, the R&B superstar isn't concerned.Regarding whether he and Bieber speak about topping each other on the charts, Usher told MTV News, "Actually, we have not had that conversation. We try to calculate when we release so that we support each other. It's like a seesaw: 'You take it this week; I'll take it this week.' "Usher also said that even though he and Bieber do not appear on each other's albums, he was still heavily involved in each song that made the cut on Believe."We talked about many different things when making his album. The coolest part about it is we support each other regardless if I'm on the album or he's on my album or not," Usher said. "Every album, it is that sit-down that we have to have, to go through this record. We talk about the audiences that are there: This song is for this audience member, this song is for this region. Time is ticking. It's only a matter of hours until <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> makes her post-<a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/01/09/jay-z-dedicates-bic-song-to-baby-blue-ivy-carter">Blue Ivy Carter</a> performance comeback with her string of <a href="/news/articles/1681308/beyonce-memorial-day-atlantic-city-shows.jhtml">Memorial Day weekend shows</a> at Atlantic City's recently launched Revel entertainment center. And with anticipation high, the pop titan is giving her fans a small taste of the behind-the-scenes action it took to transition back to her stage show ways.In the first of a two-part video montage segment that was posted on the singer's <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/the-making-of-a-concert-part-1" target="_blank">website</a>, Queen B is seen working hard almost two months prior to the gigs on everything from choreography to show concept and vocal rehearsing.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyoncé - "Love on Top"" id="vid:702484" width="415" height="255"></div>Despite admitting a few nerves and her inclusion in the pop-star-turned-mom club, Beyoncé remained adamant about her return to the stage, "I'm enjoying being a mother, so it's like going back to my old job. It's a little strange, but it's important that you don't lose yourself and have your own passions. I'm back to work. I'm back to business."It's the first of many candid moments in which the singer opens up and allows camera lenses to document the planning of the concerts. And by the looks of it, the chart-topper will be giving it her all. At one point, Beyoncé is seen sitting on the floor with her crew of dancers conceptualizing the event. "What I'm trying to say with the show ... yes, I had a baby, but it just made me more grounded," she says.In comparison to her intimate <a href="/news/articles/1669179/beyonce-roseland-ballroom-concert-new-york.jhtml">four-night affair</a> at New York's Roseland Ballroom in August 2011, the Revel shows are expected to be much more of a grand spectacle, with high-tech LED, intense choreography and video backdrops.Positivity goes a long way, as her choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. co-signs the singer's intent to create a stellar event. "I think this show has the potential to be one of the greatest shows we've done. Stevie Ryan may make fun of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> on her new VH1 show <a href="http://www.vh1.com/shows/stevie_tv/series.jhtml" target="_blank">"Stevie TV,"</a> but the actress and the pop star actually have something cool in common: They were both discovered on YouTube. Ryan began her career impersonating celebrities and creating her own characters on her YouTube <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/stevieryan" target="_blank">channel</a> and instantly became an Internet star. Now the 26-year-old comedian gets to do her routines on VH1, portraying some of today's biggest celebs and reality TV stars. <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:752244/cp~vid%3D752244%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A752244" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> "It's just a female's perspective on pop culture, really, at least that's the way I think about it," Ryan told MTV News on Tuesday. "It's really just kind of making fun of pop culture, what's happening in it, just making fun of these celebrities that are rewarded for bad behavior." So far on "Stevie TV," Ryan has created a music video that mocks <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>'s "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)," gotten into character as <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> and done some cross-dressing to get into one of her favorite roles, Justin Bieber. Ryan explained that Bieber has been the most fun to play "because I always tell everybody how guys and girls always like me when I'm Justin Bieber. ... Girls are like, 'You're so cute, like, are you really a girl?' And then guys are like, 'I don't know what it is, but you're really hot.' But I really like playing everybody," she laughed. And though she may poke fun at celebrities, Ryan said she's really a fan of most of the stars ... except maybe one. "I just thought, 'What a great way to kind of show that this is what the younger generation is growing up with, that who little girls like, is Kim Kardashian,' " Ryan said. "It's just observing these weird behaviors and finding a place for them that makes sense because you can always make fun of Kim Kardashian — she has a big butt, she made a sex tape — but at the same time you have to step back and look at the big picture; people are actually wanting to be like this." As for future episodes, Ryan really wants to impersonate a certain Young Money rapper. "I would like to do <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj,"</a> Ryan revealed. "There's nothing that I want to make fun of about her, because I'm obsessed with her and I really, really love her." Asked if she's gotten any backlash yet for the sometimes harsh jokes on her show, Ryan said she hasn't, but she's ready if it comes her way. "It hasn't happened before and I'd give a flying f--- about what any of them have to say," Ryan said. But with more than 500,000 views on YouTube and the stamp of approval from the Queen B herself, the junior class president from Pennsylvania has quickly learned the power of the Internet."I'm going on her website, and I just start screaming," Ton said about reading a post in which <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/brilliant" target="_blank">Beyoncé praises his "Snuggie Version,"</a> calling it "brilliant."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ton Do-Nguyen Made His Beyonce Parody For 'Fun'" id="vid:816890" width="415" height="255"></div>"That was literally the best moment of my life — hands down," the 16-year-old told MTV News. "I was scared she would get mad. ... Britney Spears has a new music video out with Will.i.am called Scream and Shout. The single leaked early but had a great response. The music video isn’t set to release till Wednesday, where it will premiere on XFactor, but there is a teaser and it looks great. Britney looks hot! Britney teased fans with some images, and promised to follow as many people as she could, if they made the single promo their profile pic. That is unique marketing! With all that being said, y personal opinion of the song is = blah. it isn’t bad – but it is nothing new. It sounds like a song off of her last album and it just isn’t doing anything for me. I kind of expected big things with a collaboration with Will.i.am but it just fell short for me.
